Today was a very sad day. It was today that President Obama released his long form birth certificate after months of rabid demands by the Republican Party for its release. It was today that the scum of the earth manifested in Donald Trump gloated over his self-proclaimed triumph in getting the President to release the certificate. It was also today that the scum of the earth questioned the President's eligibility to attend the Ivy League school of Harvard University.
Today was a very sad day because it was the day that hatred, bigotry and racism advocated by the vitriolic Republican Party were validated yet again by the President.
The Republicans have long prided themselves on being tough and responsible and wise and rich and self-made and highbrow and philistine and religious and family-oriented and free-marketers. But most of all, they prided themselves on being All American, So American, Very American, as American as Apple Pie and Wall Street and The Pentagon and all in one.
But that was back then. Now it's a different story.
Unfortunately for them (and for us having to endure this disgusting revelation,) their veneer has started to wear thin the day President Barack Hussein Obama took office in January 2009. The façade finally cracked revealing a rotten, maggot-infested core of xenophobia, racism and supremacy.
It all started with claims that the President was a Muslim. In fact, 46% of Republicans still believe Obama is a Muslim. Of course, the President's response to these claims was disappointing to say the very least. Instead of calling out the anti-Muslim, anti-different, anti-other rhetoric for what it really was and saying, "so what if I was a Muslim?! Would it change anything about how effectively I can do my job?! Do you people have something against people of other faiths?! What is this really about?", he chose to deny the he was a Muslim and defensively explain that he was a Christian.
But Obama's faith to 46% of the Republicans is not a matter of reality. It's a matter of perception. To these energized White supremacists, the President's faith was and still is Islam, regardless of what he says or does.
But wait, there's more.
The Republicans have been so livid that a "negro" has been their President for all these months they had to find another way to de-Americanize him (since the Muslim thing didn't quite take off,) and in turn nullify his presidency. They went after his birth certificate. They wanted to see it. To touch it. To smell it. To radiocarbon-date it. They wanted a tangible evidence that Obama is an American. A sweet old White lady, and a GOP official, in Orange County tried explaining why the President hasn't released the long form birth certificate by sending around a picture of him looking like a chimp.
The President, wisely, ignored such nonsense, until today. He (again) succumbed to validate the racism and hatred these people harbor for him, his family and every non-White American (including me) that's ever lived, living or conceived.
Fiscal Conservatives that are as appalled as I am at what the Republican Party has become should leave that pit and start their own Party. The GOP is now officially the party of the Klan 2.0. Those long white robes with pointed hoods are SO 1964! Now they wear suits and fake hair pieces just like everyone else.
Yes indeed, today was a very sad day. It was today that our country had a flashback of a dire time in the 1860s where the country went to war against itself to free the very people that are still enslaved today albeit not physically, but certainly psychologically and mentally.
It was today that the prospect of another civil war seemed all very real.
